Lookingglass Theatre Company announces its 25th Anniversary Season

Directors include Lookingglass Ensemble Members Mary Zimmerman, Heidi Stillman, Christine Mary Dunford, and David Schwimmer

Chicago, IL—Lookingglass Theatre Company proudly announces its 25th Anniversary Season, kicking off with the return of Metamorphoses written and directed by Ensemble Member Mary Zimmerman, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Broadway run. The season continues with the Chicago premiere of the Tony award-nominated Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, a 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist, written by Rajiv Joseph and directed by Heidi Stillman. Ensemble Member Christine Mary Dunford will direct the world premiere of her adaptation of the bestselling novel Still Alice. In the final show of Lookingglass’ 25th Season, David Schwimmer will direct the world premiere of Big Lake Big City by Keith Huff, the award-winning playwright of the Broadway cop drama A Steady Rain.  Read the rest of this entry »

Chicago, IL – Court Theatre proudly announces its 2012/13 season under the continuing leadership of Artistic Director Charles Newell, Executive Director Stephen J. Albert, Board Chair Virginia Gerst and Deputy Provost of the Arts Larry Norman. The company’s 58th season will feature August Wilson’s Jitney, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson; a reimagining of James Joyce’s The Dead directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell with Musical Direction by Doug Peck; David Hare’s Skylight directed by William Brown in his Court Theatre debut; and University of Chicago alumnus David Auburn’s Proof, also directed by Charles Newell. Chicago Shakespeare Theater announces 2012/13 Season

Chicago—March 12, 2012—Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) Artistic Director Barbara Gaines and Executive Director Criss Hendersonannounced today CST’s 2012/13 Season, which begins with a major new production of Sunday in the Park with George by musical team Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, and also includes the Chicago premiere of The School for Lies by playwright David Ives and productions of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Henry VIII. The Theater’s extensive World’s Stage lineup of international programming for 2012/13 ranges from the American premiere of A History of Everything by Belgian company Ontroerend Goed to the return of the National Theatre of Scotland’s internationally acclaimed Black Watch and its inventive, supernatural The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart. CST’s annual CST Family programming kicks off this summer with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Additional productions will be announced for the 2012/13 Season later this summer, including an ongoing collaboration between Chicago Shakespeare Theater and Australia’s one step at a time like this (en route) creating for the City of Chicago a world premiere pedestrian-based live art event inspired by Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure and set in the city’s urban landscape. STEPPENWOLF THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES 2012/13 SUBSCRIPTION SEASON

CHICAGO (March 7, 2012) – Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey announced today the 2012/13 Subscription Season, including a Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere and the work of fifteen ensemble members. The season begins in Steppenwolf’s Downstairs Theatre with David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Up next, ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro directs The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis. In the Upstairs Theatre, ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter. In April 2013, ensemble member Tina Landau directs the Steppenwolf-commissioned world premiere of Head of Passes by ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney, their first collaboration since the widely-praised The Brother/Sister Plays (2010). Interrobang Theatre Project Will Produce Paula Vogel’s Explosive Hot ’N’ Throbbing and the Chicago Premiere of Andrew Bovell’s Speaking in Tongues

Chicago, IL – Interrobang Theatre Project (ITP), under the leadership of Artistic Director Jeffry Stanton and Managing Director Gregory Owen-Boger, announces its 2012-2013 season. The company’s 3rd season will feature Paula Vogel’s Hot ’N’ Throbbing and the Chicago premiere of Andrew Bovell’s Speaking in Tongues. Both plays will be directed by Jeffry Stanton.

The 2012 – 2013 Season Includes Two Chicago Premieres Including A New Holiday Production and Two Classics of American Musical Theatre.

CHICAGO – Michael Weber, Artistic Director of Porchlight Music Theatre, is proud to announce Porchlight’s18th season. The season includes the Chicago premiere of A Class Act, September 1 – October 14; a new to Chicago holiday production of The Gifts of the Magi, November 17 – December 30 and two classics of the American musical canon: Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, February 2 – March 17, 2013 and Pal Joey, April 20 – June 2, 2013. 2012/2013 Season Theme is The Marriage Game: Truth and Consequence?
CHICAGO–Remy Bumppo Theatre Company announces its 16th season, the first under the new leadership of longtime company member Nick Sandys. The 2012/2013 season is replete with the type of plays that the group has become renowned for producing, modern classics full of thought-provoking ideas, passionate debates, and sophisticated wit. The season kicks off with the company’s third foray into the works of Edward Albee, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Seascape (rights pending), directed by Nick Sandys. Remy Bumppo returns for the holiday season to the dazzling wit and social critique of George Bernard Shaw and his delightful romantic comedy of mis-matched parents and children, You Never Can Tell. The production will be directed by Artistic Associate Shawn Douglass, who also helmed the company’s 2010 box-office hit, The Importance of Being Earnest. The season concludes with the Midwest premiere of David Greig’s critically-acclaimed new adaptation of the savagely witty “comedy,” Creditors, by August Strindberg. A smash hit in both London and New York, this taut psychosexual thriller will be directed by one of Chicago’s finest directors, Kimberly Senior.
